Pen–Y-Clip Tunnel

Located on the A55 North Wales coast road, it is the largest hard rock highway tunnel in the UK. SPIE was awarded the total management, design procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the low energy LED base and boost lighting system, using Philips energy efficient flow store technology. This easy-to-install and maintain lifetime lighting solution is expected to reduce energy and emissions by up to 50%.

The contract comprised the design build and installation of new high and low voltage distribution systems, as well as new LED high-level tunnel lighting. The tunnels existing HV and LV distribution systems and lighting was retained whilst the new installation took place, which resulted in minimal disruption to traffic.

Manchester Airport Tunnels

SPIE installed a new, modern, energy-efficient, low maintenance and controllable tunnel lighting system in the two A538 road tunnels under runways one and two at Manchester Airport. The lighting system will significantly reduce the energy consumption and running costs compared to their previous installation whilst complying with the latest standards.

St Pancras Station

This energy-efficient LED lighting refurbishment tunnel contract was completed with strategic lane closures, allowing the underpass to be operational 24 hours a day. The refurbishment included the design and installation of the first UK tunnel project to have the Philips flow store LED tunnel luminaire. This alternative to conventional HPS lighting, delivers cost and safety benefits over the full lifetime of the product. SPIE met the customer’s needs with this easy-to-install and maintain, long-lasting and highly efficient lighting solution.
