Under the contract, SPIE UK will be responsible for a complete office strip-out before completing the installation works, validation, commissioning and handover of the cleanroom and optical laboratory located in Bristol. The new facility is set for completion by autumn 2022 and will be used for critical manufacturing and assembly of optical instruments on satellites to monitor climate change, feeding valuable data into computer climate models run by institutions across the globe.
As part of the scheme, the facility will be designed to meet both the ISO 14644 and ECSS suite of standards along with UK Building Control and CIBSE design and installation best practice. The optics cleanroom suite is to consist of the cleanroom which will be accessed from a changing room via an air shower. Additionally, there is to be an adjacent control room from which the activity within the cleanroom can be monitored.
