In the fight against climate change, SPIE UK is committed to helping its clients reduce their carbon footprint and meet their sustainability targets. That is why we are proud to be rolling out 12 new Ford Transit Custom hybrid vehicles across our portfolio of Welsh Government tunnel projects which will allow us to operate more sustainably in these rural locations where the EV charging infrastructure is still too limited for fully electric vehicles.
SPIE UK has worked for the Welsh Government for more than 30 years, with the A55 Conwy Tunnel refurbishment being our first project in 1989. This long-standing relationship is testament to our quality of delivery and continuously meeting the client’s needs, particularly in terms of budget and timescales – ensuring minimal disruption to road users. Most recently we secured a 5-year maintenance contract, which led to us opening a regional office with a dedicated local team on hand to monitor and maintain the tunnels in and around the area.

The climate crisis has remained high on the agenda at our one-to-one meetings with the client, where we discuss the pipeline of works and innovations we can offer, focusing on how we can reduce energy consumption through LED lighting or renewable energy and energy-efficient solutions.
There is no doubt that the introduction of these Ford Transit Custom hybrid vans will certainly make a difference to the client’s carbon output when the SPIE team travels within the local vicinity of North Wales.
