Most buildings consume too many natural resources and use energy inefficiently. But according to the World Economic Forum, 70 per cent of the buildings currently inhabited will still be in use in 2050.

The latest buildings may be better designed or use more efficient materials, but unfortunately only account for 1 or 2 per cent of our building stock each year.

A new approach to recycling existing buildings is needed to meet future sustainability and energy efficiency requirements. This requires smart engineering solutions.
