Not surprisingly, it's not just the data centre providers that are chasing the green dream. From Google and Microsoft to Facebook and Apple, this year has seen an enormous increase in the number of solar power panels and wind turbine farms, along with liquid cooling and even data centres being used to heat domestic households.
This year saw the largest-ever renewable energy purchase in corporate history when Google purchased an 11,600 MW package of agreements that includes 18 new energy deals which brings Google's renewable energy fleet to an impressive 52 projects in total.
