Mayor, Sadiq Khan, appointed his first Chief Digital Officer and also created a number of joint ventures with other major European cities to collaborate on new applications and data sharing initiatives that aim to make life easier for their respective citizens.
There's little doubt the smart city plan has the potential to improve how London operates, but there remain several social, environmental and energy challenges with the potential to derail the initiative.
