International Women’s Day (IWD) continues to be an important date in SPIE’s calendar and one that the company celebrates and supports wholeheartedly.

This annual campaign is an opportunity to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women, as well as raise awareness around gender parity.

At SPIE, we have a strong commitment to championing gender balance and going beyond raising awareness around this well-known challenge in a male-centric industry. That is why we are supporting the IWD #BreaktheBias theme proactively.

On IWD 2022, we hosted a variety of exciting internal events, including an interactive quiz focused on inspirational women across a range of sectors, and an interview with our Commercial Director, Kate Halliday, who will be sharing her insights on why IWD is important, why she chose to join the built environment and what her message would be to those aspiring females wishing to follow in her footsteps. We also encouraged our workforce to attend a free webinar on the negative impact that the ‘apologising habit’ has on females’ careers.

Inciteful reflection on IWD is a key factor in changing people’s behaviour and perceptions, but above all, recognising the value that gender equality brings to a business, which is why diversity will remain at the top of SPIE’s agenda now and in the future.
