Developed in the early 1970’s, BT’s eleven storey commercial office block, ‘Telephone House’ in Sheffield was in need of complete refurbishment to four of its floors as well as the specialist removal and containment of asbestos, a material prevalent to this era of construction.
The refurbishment works delivered by SPIE over a four month period included:
To ensure this project was successfully delivered, regular communication between the Building Management Team, consultants and building users was imperative; a daily surgery and a weekly progress/planning meeting took place to ensure all parties users were aware of works being carried out.
Furthermore, a resident Site Manager was instructed by SPIE to control the entire project. This role was backed up by the team at SPIE Head Office, available to provide additional skills and support in areas such as contract management, quality surveying, procurement, health and safety and accounts.
