London, UK – 14th December 2016
SPIE UK has been awarded a three-year Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) maintenance contract worth £447k with the Design Museum, London.
As part of the tender process, SPIE UK’s Facilities Services division presented an approach demonstrating its considerable experience as well as the care and consideration it could give the museum’s collection. With a focus on seamless team management and a drive to deliver beyond expectations, SPIE was a natural choice of contractor for the installation of the museum’s new M&E system.
The Design Museum is one of the world’s leading galleries of contemporary design and architecture, covering product, industrial, graphic, fashion and architectural design. Founded in 1989 and most recently positioned by the River Thames near Tower Bridge, it has now relocated to the former home of the Commonwealth Institute, undergoing an £83m refurbishment. The museum closed on 30 June 2016 and reopened at the iconic building in Kensington, South West London on 24th November 2016.
Steve Gibbs, SPIE UK’s Facilities Services Managing Director, says: “We were thrilled to have won the contract to work for this prestigious client. The opening of the Design Museum’s new space is one of the biggest events on the London arts scene this year and it’s a privilege to have played a part in its success.”
Brian Reeves, Head of Facilities from The Design Museum, comments: “Following a competitive tender process, it was evident that SPIE demonstrated both the experience and genuine understanding of our design values required to deliver the planned and reactive services expected by the Design Museum during both the transition from practical completion and beyond. With their proven facilities management heritage experience, alongside its distinct solutions for improving buildings environmental performance, SPIE will enable us to realise our environmental goals over the coming years.”
