Netherhall Junior School Biodome Installation

Netherhall Junior School Biodome Installation

SPIE install biodome to enhance school’s learning facilities.

As part of SPIE’s PFI schools’ total facilities management contracts, we undertake a variety of projects to help schools further develop their pupils.

Most recently, Netherhall Junior requested the means for the children to grow their own organic vegetables and fruit in hydroponic tanks, which hold water and nutrients that plants need to live.

An outdoor biodome glasshouse was selected, in the form of a 6m diameter globe, with shatterproof polycarbonate panels. The biodome was delivered as a kit which allowed for it to be efficiently fitted and fixed on-site.

The SPIE team demonstrated great expertise during the biodome installation

Head of School at Netherhall Junior Zoe Lowe

Rose Kendall, a Project Manager at SPIE UK, said: ‘Our engineering expertise means we can support the client with any additional work to enhance the school’s learning facilities. The biodome installation is a great example of this in terms of allowing the children to learn about and maintain their own ecosystem in an innovative structure.’

With the option to upgrade the hydroponic system to aquaponic, the glasshouse provides scope to develop and improve its function.
